Choose Harmony When Your Gas or Electric Water Heater Isn't Working
Check to make sure the valve under your sink is turned on. There should be two valves. The one on the right is the hot water valve. Make sure the valve is on, by rotating the handle until it is parallel to the hose attached to it.
This usually means your home is equipped with multiple water heaters. It is a common practice to have a seperate water heater for the primary bathroom. This water heater may be located in the attic, a closet near the primary bath, or you may have two water heaters in your garage or exterior alcove.
If it’s out, follow the manufacturer's instructions to relight it. If it doesn’t stay lit, the thermocouple or gas supply might need repair.
Locate your electrical panel and ensure the water heater breaker hasn’t tripped. Reset it if necessary. If the breaker isn't tripped, then the heating element or thermostat might need replacing.
A basic big box store water heater has a typical lifespan of around 8 years. Some professional grade water heaters can last as long as 12 years. If your home is equipped with a tankless water heater, they can last up to 20 years.
